Bandhas, very superficially explained, mean locks. And they lock the energy you create in your sadhana.
It is worrying for me as a teacher to see many longstanding and regular students not do the bandhas. I feel if 15 mins is all you get ( and for most only thrice a week because I fear they do not practice on their own, and if they do, they skip pranayama) then they must give it their all.
Bandhas, according to the Bihar school of yoga books, have very subtle but powerful impact. They improve blood flow to the skin and the brain. Especially the stomach and the pelvic locks. The chin lock maintains the homeostasis of the body when this blood shunting takes place. How fantastic!
