If you are a serious meditator, u will find that there are serious plateaus you reach. I have suffered this for the last few months, and it shows as sorrow lines on my face:) I am not joking.. Since I started meditating almost 15 years ago and there may be days when I skip asana practice but I have never skipped meditation. But the last six months, I have had to struggle with meditation, facing such resistance as I have not faced before. I think I can guess why.. but that is not a good enough reason to fall prey to it! I chanced upon this quote from Swami Sivananda's Divine Life Society site(you will find his book here, for download or browsing). Perhaps this hint is what I needed, just now, in my meditative crossroads.. Btw. I love this image of Swami Vishnu -- look carefully where he is doing this fantastic headstand. What a fun person.. that is why this Sivananda style rocks:)
Do not try to drive away the unimportant and irrelevant thoughts. The more you try, the
more will they return and the more strength will they gain. You will only tax your energy and will.
Become indifferent. Fill the mind with divine thoughts. The others will gradually vanish. Get
yourself established in Nirvikalpa Samadhi through meditation.
