Yogic tip for the day

Swami Niranjananda says this in Yoga Darshan, that though deep breathing is very healthy, we suddenly cannot start to slow down our breath or deepen it. It comes only from regular pranayama practice. To suddenly attempting to deepen the breath actually stresses the lungs! This is an eye-opener for me, and should be lesson to others who dismiss pranayama practices in their yoga classes as irrelevant. Without a complementary pranayama practice, advanced poses will become very tough.. because when the muscles are stressed, they are indeed supported by organised breathing.. and which may explain why many yoga classes are unable to take their students beyond the mere show of poses, passed off as power yoga these days:(
