From Dr David Frawley's book, a warning on how meditation can go wrong:

  • Can increase vata and thus make one spaced out and ungrounded.
  • Colourful visions, or sleep deprivation can also be caused. This too spikes vata, causing dereanged fantasy and abnormal energy movement.
Here, is own words, further addressing this issue:

According to yoga and ayurveda, meditation practices should be done naturally, through our own aspiration. What we can prdouce through harsh or forceful methods is likely to have side effects. The mind is capable of any illusion, including of fantasy of enlightment. We should not put ourselves in positions that may artificially enhance this illusion-building power of the mind.
