As I learn more about yoga, I am humbled at how less I know and how vast this science is.
I had known about the flow of elements for a while now, but you know, when you practice, there is a limit to how much your brain will take in:) I used to read up every book with the word yoga in its title and even now have a humungous collection of books to which I keep returning.
So, this business of elements is where ayurveda and yoga link up: the vata, a hyperactive personality and air element need to know the asanas that aggravate and excite this element and poses that deflate this element (usually these are the challenging ones, like the standing balancers:); pitta element needs to tone down the competitive aggression they bring to the mat (they are the most reluctant to listen to a teacher:) and often will argue and do their own movements on the mat despite being seemingly humble:) and the kapha, with stolid stamina but great reluctance to do inversions and fear of them and resistance towaards surya namaskar:) Similarly, the elements and the mudras link is also very powerful -- each finger represents an element -- the thumb the fire, the index finger represents the air, the middle finger ether, the ring finger the earth and the little finger the element of water. To control the aggravation of any element you need to know when they flow --
Vata: from 2 to 6 am/pm
Pitta: from 6 to 10 am/pm
Kapha: From 10 to 2 am/pm
