In class

Otto is back, with his beatific, beautiful sattvic energy. Even for the short prayer, he sits in padmasana, making Maya envious... Hey, she is going to the US shortly, and has suddenly woken up to all that she is going to miss in the Indian culture, especially yoga, and the lotus pose!!And to see an European do the lotus with such ease!??
Sonu, who has been in touch with me over this blog and planning for aeons  to come for a walk-in, and resisting it, eventually managed to, and felt that maybe she should clean up her yoga, with more regularity (I am happy to hear that Sonu dear, since I know u are reading this).
Amitabh trundled in, for the 8.15 class, and made everybody happy, esp Sharmishtha who rolled her eyes happily. . He comes once in a blue moon, and if allowed, will disappear into the wall (unlikely wallflower, knowing how he otherwise loves the stage:) but he has that yoga attitude(he will sniff at that for sure. A, I know, u read this blog too:)  that makes everybody around him feel good just to have him in class. I will unabashedly confess that he is amongst my fav students, just because he will do anything asked of him, in class, despite late nights, or a binge:) What more can a yoga teacher ask for?? Today, he did the peacock and again, held on firmly and long. Mmmm, gorgeous!! He is amongst the few in the scorpion set who can  do  it without my support (right from the beginning, he has not needed my support);  plus holds it long AND  exits it very lightly.
Mayank is also there, in the scorpion,  and last time gamely dropped back into the backward drop (several times)  which is important, if u wish to learn scorpion. Petros is also now into scorpion, his second attempt was also neat and firm. Btw Simrat, my Mulund darling, who comes once in a while, but shines in every pose, is also the only female student now doing the scorpion without support... But others are there too, heartbeat away: and now, my task to get them off the wall (and my supportive presence!).
Khusboo is now practically doing the headstand without my support. Maya has got the crow. Today Minesh got it too, tho for a short hold. Boo, as Khusboo  is called, is my unofficial PR agent, she keeps bringing students in... I don't know what she tells them, but it must be something sweet, for sure:) Any case, her crow was held for long last night. She is another one who is growing fast in the poses, so tiny and so involved, when she does yoga that it  just sets off all my maternal chords wildly, just to watch her so composed, sedate, in her lotus, like a little, tiny goddess:)

Hi,

When you began with Yoga, did you ever at any stage felt like giving it up, thinking it was not worth your while. I mean did you ever go through those ups and downs in your emotions regarding attending and learning yoga??

no, i started on something very very basic... and did that for a year, then suddenly, while doing gym got introduced to more difficult stuff that engrossed me. Simultaneously, I was lucky to start meditation. My teacher initiated me in the simple method of repeating a mantra or watching the breath. From five mins I increased it to 20 and now do it for approx 30 mins daily. That start of cleaned my mind. I cannot explain it, but suddenly things began to make much sense. Things that grip others receded (I still do everything else, as before, but it comes tempered with a knowing, that I dont need that). Some sort of an objectivity set in, and a certain fearlessness of spirit. I really dont care about a lot of things that overrules most people. And I am growing that way more consciously now, then before. And still, if u hear me talk or do things, I seem to be the same person. But i cannot explain. I have only one goal, everything else wafts around that. So, in a manner of speaking I am absolutely free!

So nice to hear a teacher talk so fondly of her/his students, like they're your little ducklings! The best part of having regular students is sharing with them the joy in transformation, their bodies and their practice growing and developing over time in beautiful, and often unexpected ways...thanks for the inspiration! I think I'll have to give Scorpion another shot today...

thanks for sharing Emily/Omily:) Yes, there is this great affection for the students, and seeing their loyalty to yoga and devotion for that, that is my greatest reward:) That feeling only grows...
