If u wish to attempt single leg balance, focus on the unstable, standing leg. Refine the awareness by becoming aware where the pose is falling part -- and if you firm up your muscles in this fashion, u can stay on and on... I find that always in a balancing pose shifting the awareness this way can help steady u...
