Da Vinci and Om Purnamadah Puranamidam Puranaat...

Ya, I have written about it earlier too. But still grips me:) The prayer we Sivananda teachers use at the end of a yoga session, Om Purnamadah...from Isopanishad  .. it has the most uncanny, word-to-word resonance with Da Vinci's take on the void (referred as the Bindu by Indian philosophy)...

The amazing book `How to think like Leonardo Da Vinci’ by Michael Gelb notes `the maestro articulated concepts that are at the core of much Asian wisdom’. Da Vinci sounded, according to Gelb, like a Buddhist! For one, despite his passion for all things, living and dead, he advocated the eastern concept of non-attachment, celebrated as vairagya among our sages.

As a scientist Da Vinci was intrigued by the concept of the void as a source of all things. Quantum physics has been grappling to explain in lay terms this concept of the void, the core of eastern philosophy.

Here is Da Vinci’s take: “Among the great things found among us the existence of Nothing is the greatest. Its essence dwells as regards time between the past and the future, and possesses nothing of the present. This nothingness has the part equal to the whole and the whole to the part, the divisible to the indivisible and it comes to the same amount whether we divide it, multiply it, add to it or subtract from it.” The ancient Ishavasya Upanishad celebrates this divine void with words that echo Da Vinci’s own: “Om Purnamadah Purnamidam Purnaat Purna mudachyate Purnasya Purna maadaaya Purnamevaa vashiseyate.” (`This(Void/Shoonya) is full,That is full/ From the full, the full is taken/ the full has come (from it)/ If you take out full from the full, the full alone remains.’

Amazing, na??

Btw as I said, this is from Isopanishad-- in whose title  those who have read the rivetting book Did Jesus visit India?  -- will find a connection. This book discusses the missing years in the life of Jesus, the time after his 14th year to his return back as the son of God.. The word Isa ... Also is name for Prophet Jesus amongst Muslims.. The book says there is a reference to a young saint boy Isa by the nath yogis.  Isa is Aramaic for Jesus, and the Latinized name Jesus..
