It is This then!!

When all the five sheaths have been eliminated by the reasoning on the sruti passages, what remains as the culminating point of the process is the Witness, the Satchidananda Absolute -- the atman.

Vivekachudamani, Adi Shankaracharya

This is fantastic. This makes it at once the easiest and the most difficult goals. Pure awareness. Not the shutting down of it, as is being promised by certain meditations, but an actual and complete state of awareness. And I assume, stepping back from it.

Not a leprous state for which we are desperate, where we feel no pain. But a state where pain may be felt, but you can step back from that. This is very exciting for me, as an aspirant. It makes the goal attainable, through sheer practice. It is both an effort and a surrender. It is both tough and attainable, like a new asana!!
